The Art Room within The Old School is situated in the former Saint Andrews Primary in Dumfries which is located in the south-west of Scotland. Our story began in 2012 with Rachel Speedie who opened the art room in the former staff room of this beautiful building. However it soon became apparent that space was somewhat limited and we needed a bigger venue. And as a result the art room moved to a bigger area located within the same building; which actually turned out to be the schools actual art room!!
in 2014 Emma Fisher joined the team and began her role mainly delivering art clubs for 5-11years and preparing materials in the creative workspace, whilst running a busy family home with 6 children at home and studying for a business/arts degree.
In 2017 Rachel took the massive decision to sell the art room and follow a dream of teaching art in schools, so went on to teacher training and loves it!
Emma bought the business from Rachel and grew it to what it is today. It’s very much a family affair now. Since his retirement Emma’s husband, john, helps deliver busy bugs (our baby art club) and our after school clubs, he’s a dab hand with the biscuit tin.Their youngest son helps with Saturday morning clubs and other family members pop in and out to help in the shop. Theres always a “Fisher” somewhere within the Art room!
